On a fast paced day where everyone was busy with corporate life, I was working with my computer when I received a text from my very outgoing friend, Klen. The SMS says, “Dinner later. Maya. Crossroads. Banilad. 7:30pm -9:00pm.” So I thought if there was a special occasion like someone is celebrating his birthday but she said it’s just a dinner out with friends. Because I was so busy that day I thought of giving myself a break and have some delicious food at night. I decided to bring my friend, Hannah, along so that we can also catch up. One of our pals, Bun Bun, decided to catch up and went there with us. Well, we all deserve a happy meal after a busy day’s work, right?
When we arrived, we opted to go upstairs and got a good spot. While waiting for Klen to arrive we browsed over the menu and all the names of the food sounded so foreign so we asked for the waiter for some advices and asked for their best-seller. Who wouldn’t want to try the best?
We tried the Asada, plancha grilled Angus beef, one of the Fajitas available for PHP 695. Fajitas includes sizzling plancha with frijoles, Mexican rice, charred peppers, onions and warm flour tortillas. This dish makes you drool by just looking the food, texture was perfect,
We also tried Costillas De Maya, a chipotle BBQ back ribs for PHP 525 which was also uberlicious, plus some Enchiladas, a handcrafted corn tortillas stuffed with your choice of one of the fillings (“con queso” three cheeses and onion, “tinga” chipotle chicken, “carnitas” crispy pork confit). All enchiladas are served with refried beans, Mexican rice and home-made sour cream. There were so many to choose from and they all sound delicious.
Maya Mexican Restaurant also has a wide collection of liquor in the house ranging from tequila, gin, vodka, rum, coñac, brandy, margarita, champagne, red and white wines. Indulging some of these great drinks will cost around PHP 200+ to PHP 1,000 on average up to PHP 4,000+. They also have a very nice wine bar at the first and second levels. The wine bar at the second level has more to offer though.
While we were waiting for the food we checked around the place and concluded that Maya Mexican Restaurant has a very nice ambience, a perfect combination of dim lighting, with some spots of brighter lights such as the bars and the neon covers of the candles found on each table. They create a really eye-catching effect. We felt so cozy and relaxed in our stay. We found it an ideal place to have a dinner date. So take your special someone here, will you?
