Already thinking of where to spend your next Christmas and New Year? Or simply still not over the holidays yet? Well, look no further because Cebu’s got you covered.

Christmas means enjoying the holiday break, the most opportune time to relax and have fun away from your usual daily routine. Whether you choose to simply just stay home and spend time with your family or choose to go on vacation somewhere else, Christmas will always be the most wonderful time of the year. In fact, the Philippines has the longest Christmas ever, which also means it is the most significant holiday for Filipinos.

Why and Where to Spend Your Holidays in Cebu

When you’re thinking of spending your Christmas holiday away from home, Cebu is a choice that really stands out above the rest. If you’re planning on a short stay and wish to be on a more practical budget, instead of paying for expensive hotels, you may rent a condo unit or look for condotels and one of the best online sources for these property types is Lamudi.

The province of Cebu offers to give both locals and visitors the best of everything, from the convenience of modern city living fused with old traditions and rich history, to its abundant natural resources and stunning white sand beaches—Cebu is indeed a world-class destination.

Making your Christmas celebration in Cebu can be worthwhile especially when you’re with your loved ones. So when marking your calendar for Christmas activities, below are just some of the best things that you should not miss out on when you’re in Cebu.

1. The Fuente Osmeña Circle Giant Christmas Tree

Who would ever want to miss seeing the iconic 125-foot giant Christmas tree located right at the center of Fuente Osmeña Circle? This giant Christmas tree is also known as the M. Lhuillier Tree of Hope, which was first set up in 2000 by the Cebuano-owned Lhuillier Group of Companies as a gift to the Cebuano people.

It symbolizes peace, hope, unity, and charity and illuminates beautifully at night, adorned with at least 25,000 blinking lights. At the base are the images of Señor Sto. Niño with diadems, matched with other Christmas décors like poinsettias and star lanterns. The tree serves as the center for the Pasko sa Sugbo celebration and activities that last until the Sinulog Festival, held every third Sunday of January.

2. Cebu Night Markets and Shopping Malls

Celebrating Christmas will seem incomplete if there is no shopping involved. There are many popular shopping malls like SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City, Ayala Center, and Robinsons Galleria Cebu that extend their shopping hours even until midnight to accommodate patrons especially during the Christmas rush. Similarly, night markets where you can haggle and find the best deals are also available and the most popular ones are found in Colon Street and IT Park.

Whether you’re shopping for yourself or for your loved ones, the most important thing to remember is the joyous spirit of Christmas, the spirit of love and sharing your blessings, even to strangers especially the less privileged.

3. Symphony of Lights at Ayala Center

The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu is brightened up by its astounding display of Christmas lights that synchronize with a beautiful instrumental medley of Christmas carols. Ayala Center Cebu has been doing this for three years now and it is something to look forward to every December. The show, which started last December 1, 2017 and will continue until January 21, 2018, runs from 6 to 9 PM with 30-minute intervals.

4. Kasadya at South Road Properties

Kasadya at South Road Properties has been themed this year as “Big Boom sa Sugbo.” It is a temporary amusement park that officially opened last December 8, 2017 and will last until February 28, 2018. This amusement park is budget-friendly so people can truly enjoy without spending too much. It features different fun rides like Ferris wheels, horror rides, and pirate ships, all catering to both children and adults. Other rides include boat rides, bump cars, and giant inflatables, among others.

The Cebu local government, along with its managing partner Professional Advertising and Production Specialist, ensures that all rides have been inspected by licensed mechanical and electrical engineers. Security personnel and CCTV cameras have been deployed in the area as well to ensure that park visitors will feel safe and secure, and have a wonderful experience while inside the amusement park.

These are just a few things you can do while spending Christmas in Cebu, but there are still so many things to do and to see. Only your imagination is the limit, and the possibilities are endless. You can do unique celebrations like having a bonfire at the beach with friends and family, going to church and attending mass, or having a buffet of unique Cebuano foods.

Likewise, do not limit yourself in the city because there are many outlying towns and islands that you can also visit and appreciate. The most important part is to make the most out of your stay and save the best Cebu Christmas memories in your heart.
